Phase IV Deployment

Update:

  • On June 30, 2010, we completed Phase IV of the Usability Initiative Deployment. The list of projects may be found here.
  • We still need help translating the Post-Release Central Notice and other items in the table below.

Please check the list of Wikipedia Projects for Phase IV Deployment

  • Wikipedias with over 80% of the interface localized, target date: 10am PDT/5pm UTC, June 30, 2010.
  • If your local Wikipedia project meets the criteria above, feel free to add it to this list and translate the information listed in the (en) row, into your own language.

  • The deadline for the Translation and Bug help CentralNotice (as it is going live on this date) is on June 21, 2010.
  • The deadline for the translation of system messages is 4pm PDT/11pm UTC, June 28, 2010.
  • If you create a localized feedback page, please direct English language feedback to m:2010 Wikimedia design and feature change/Feedback, and help us to translate or summarize feedback in your language.
  • If you have any questions regarding the translation process or need help, please contact Az1568 (azarivatwikimedia.org) or any member of the Usability Initiative.

Phase V Deployment

  • Deadline for bug reports: Aug 25

Projects will be switched regardless of localization status, so this is a critical moment to provide missing localizations. We will not switch projects with critical functionality breakage, so please report such breakage as soon as possible.

In order to help with communication, if you're an English speaker, please join the wikitech-ambassadors mailing list and introduce yourself. We'll use this list as an interface between the Wikimedia Foundation and the Wikimedia languages/projects.

Before you start switching all remaning projects, please consider fix issue connected with missing translation: https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=24906#c5. Thank you, Leinad 00:18, 24 August 2010 (UTC)

Notes

  1. 1.0 1.1 It's important that these default changes are widely announced on the Foundation blog, local village pumps, local news mediums, chapter blogs/press releases, social media outlets, and many other places. Please list the announcement venues here.
  2. 2.0 2.1 To be enabled on June 6 (72 hours before the switch).
  3. 3.0 3.1 CentralNotice links to this page, so this page must also be enabled by June 6.
  4. 4.0 4.1 "User Experience Ambassadors" – The collaboration with the translation community is crucial to make sure that support materials, such as announcements, FAQ, feedback page, site notice, and OTRS templates, are available in local languages, but it is also important that there are group of folks from the each language community who can make sure that announcements are reaching to the language community and the feedback is escalated back to the user experience team before and after the release. These advocates will be "user experience ambassadors" who will help coordinate the translation of support materials in the local language, help communicate information about "the switch", and help escalate feedback back to the Usability team. If you're interested in volunteering, see the talk page!
